Porsche 916 re-creation
Looking to build on the competition success of the 914-6 GT, Porsche built eleven 916 prototypes, these cars having dramatic styling with the wide wheel arches, aggressively styled bumpers, a welded on steel roof to increase bodyshell rigidity and more power by either a 2.4S or 2.7RS engine. Having appraised these cars and evaluated the production costs the project was abandoned in favour of further developing the 911 racing programme.
Gantspeed are very proud to offer for sale this stunning 916 re-creation, based on a 1970 914, just completed following a 10 year, spare time, build programme.
Specification includes:
Fully restored bodyshell with integral T45 welded in roll cage extending through the bulkheads and picking up on suspension mounting points giving enormous torsional rigidity thus allowing the retention of the original 914 detachable roof panel.
Genuine 1974 2.7 210 BHP Carrera engine (exactly the same specification as the 72/73 Carrera RS engine) very extensively rebuilt including new cylinders and pistons, and new cylinder heads. Full stainless exhaust.
All new 3.2 Carrera 915 based transmission.
Basically all new suspension, brakes and steering. 3.2 Carrera Bilstein front struts, discs and callipers. Strengthened rear arms with Bilstein coil over shocks.
Front mounted dry sump tank, thermostat, filter and cooler, giving improved weight distribution and reducing engine compartment temperature.

Purpose built wiring loom, fully fused and relayed. Varley battery. Master switch. All new light units. Wiper motor, fan motor, headlight lift motors all fully rebuilt. Maplight and power sockets for navigation equipment.
Full leather interior. Seats modified to give increased lateral support.
4-point harnesses. Fire extinguisher.
Fully refurbished Fuchs 8 x 16 and 9 x 16 rims with Bridgestone S03 tyres.
Basically a brand new 916 replica. Think of a mid-engined RS, lower, wider with much more rubber on the road!!. Built to Gantspeeds exacting standards throughout with great attention to detail.
Would cost way in excess of £100,000 to replicate at today’s costs.
